English Foundation

Days 1–15

Build the base needed to understand simple English sentences and everyday words.

Sentence Basics
Meaning: A sentence is a group of words that gives a complete meaning.
Rule: A simple sentence often follows Subject + Verb + Object. Start with a capital letter and end with correct punctuation.
Examples: I read a book. β€’ She plays cricket. β€’ We are happy.
Practice: Make one sentence using the words my school.
Nouns
Meaning: A noun is the name of a person, place, animal, thing, or idea.
Remember: Names such as Rahul, Mumbai, school, dog and happiness are nouns.
Examples: Riya is my friend. β€’ The dog is in the garden. β€’ This book is new.
Practice: Find the nouns: Aman carries a bag to school.
Pronouns
Meaning: A pronoun is a word used instead of repeating a noun.
Rule: Use he, she, it, we, they, you and I according to the person or thing.
Examples: Riya is kind. She helps me. β€’ The book is new. It is useful. β€’ Aman and I play. We are friends.
Practice: Replace Rahul: Rahul studies daily.
Articles
Meaning: A, an and the are articles used before nouns.
Rule: Use a before a consonant sound, an before a vowel sound, and the for something specific.
Examples: a pen β€’ an apple β€’ the sun.
Practice: Fill in: I saw ___ elephant.
Adjectives
Meaning: An adjective is a word that tells us more about a noun.
Rule: Adjectives can describe colour, size, number, shape or quality.
Examples: a red ball β€’ a tall tree β€’ three books.
Practice: Add an adjective: This is a ___ flower.
Adverbs
Meaning: An adverb tells how, when, where or how often an action happens.
Rule: Many adverbs describe verbs. Many end in -ly, but not all do.
Examples: She sings beautifully. β€’ He runs quickly. β€’ I always study at night.
Practice: Choose: The baby slept quiet / quietly.
Practical TaskIntroduce yourself, identify objects and create simple everyday sentences.

Daily Sentence Building

Days 16–30

Learn the most useful verbs and sentence patterns used in daily communication.

Verb Forms
Meaning: Verbs show actions or states. Their form can change with time and sentence structure.
Remember: Common forms are base, past and past participle.
Examples: go - went - gone β€’ eat - ate - eaten β€’ play - played - played.
Practice: Say the three forms of come.
Is / Am / Are
Meaning: Is, am and are are present forms of the verb be.
Rule: Use am with I, is with he, she, it or one person, and are with you, we, they or more than one.
Examples: I am ready. β€’ She is happy. β€’ They are students.
Practice: Fill in: We ___ friends.
Was / Were
Meaning: Was and were are past forms of is, am and are.
Rule: Use was with I, he, she, it and were with you, we, they.
Examples: I was tired. β€’ She was at home. β€’ They were late.
Practice: Fill in: We ___ at school yesterday.
Has / Have
Meaning: Has and have show possession and are also used in some verb forms.
Rule: Use has with he, she, it. Use have with I, you, we, they.
Examples: She has a pen. β€’ I have a bicycle. β€’ They have homework.

Do / Does / Did
Meaning: Do, does and did help us make questions and negative sentences.
Rule: Use do with I, you, we, they; does with he, she, it; and did for past time.

Practice: Make a question: She likes mangoes.
Can / Could
Meaning: Can shows ability or permission. Could often shows past ability or a polite request.
Rule: Use can or could with the base form of the verb.
Examples: I can swim. β€’ Could you help me? β€’ She could read at five.

Speak About Time

Days 31–45

Use tenses to talk clearly about routines, yesterday, current actions and future plans.

Simple Present
Meaning: Simple Present is used for habits, routines, facts and things that happen regularly.
Rule: Use the base verb with I, you, we, they. Add s or es with he, she, it in positive sentences.
Examples: I go to school daily. β€’ She reads every night. β€’ The sun rises in the east.
Practice: Make one sentence about your daily routine.
Present Continuous
Meaning: Present Continuous is used for an action happening now or around now.
Rule: Use is, am or are + verb-ing.
Examples: I am studying. β€’ She is cooking. β€’ They are playing.
Practice: Change to an action happening now: He plays football.
Simple Past
Meaning: Simple Past is used for an action completed in the past.
Rule: Use the past form of the verb. After did, use the base form.
Examples: I visited my uncle. β€’ She ate an apple. β€’ Did you call me?
Practice: Make one sentence about yesterday.
Past Continuous
Meaning: Past Continuous is used for an action that was continuing at a particular time in the past.
Rule: Use was or were + verb-ing.
Examples: I was studying at 8 PM. β€’ They were playing. β€’ She was sleeping.
Practice: Fill in: We ___ watching TV.
Simple Future
Meaning: Simple Future explains actions or plans related to the future.
Rule: Use will with the base form of the verb.
Examples: I will call you. β€’ She will study tomorrow. β€’ They will come later.
Practice: Make one sentence about tomorrow.
Going To
Meaning: Going to is commonly used for plans and intentions already decided.
Rule: Use is, am or are + going to + base verb.
Examples: I am going to study. β€’ She is going to travel. β€’ They are going to play.
Practice: Say one plan for this weekend.
Practical TaskSpeak about β€œMy Daily Routine”, β€œYesterday” and β€œMy Tomorrow Plan”.

Ask, Answer & Speak Politely

Days 46–60

Learn practical grammar used for questions, requests, advice and polite communication.

May / Might
Meaning: May and might show possibility. May can also be used for permission.
Rule: Use may or might + base verb. Might usually sounds less certain.
Examples: It may rain. β€’ She might come. β€’ May I enter?
Practice: Complete: We ___ go to the park.
Should / Must
Meaning: Should is used for advice. Must shows a strong need, rule or necessity.
Rule: Use should or must + base verb.
Examples: You should drink water. β€’ We must follow rules. β€’ You should sleep on time.
Practice: Give one piece of advice using should.
Would / Will
Meaning: Will is used for future decisions and promises. Would is often used for polite requests or preferences.
Rule: Use will or would + base verb.
Examples: I will help you. β€’ Would you open the door? β€’ I would like some water.
Practice: Make one polite request using would.
WH Questions
Meaning: WH words help us ask for specific information.
Remember: Common words are what, where, when, who, why, which and how.
Examples: Where do you live? β€’ What is your name? β€’ Why are you late?
Practice: Make one question using where.
Prepositions
Meaning: Prepositions show the relationship of a noun or pronoun with another word.
Remember: Common prepositions show place, time or direction, such as in, on, at, under, behind, near, to and from.
Examples: The book is on the table. β€’ I study at 7 PM. β€’ She lives in Delhi.
Practice: Fill in: The cat is ___ the chair.
Polite English
Meaning: Polite English helps us speak respectfully and naturally.
Remember: Use words and phrases such as please, thank you, excuse me, could you and would you.
Examples: Could you help me, please? β€’ Excuse me, may I come in? β€’ Thank you for your help.
Practice: Change into a polite request: Give me water.

Days 61–75

Practise English for situations students actually face outside the classroom.

Self Introduction
Learn: Introduce yourself clearly using simple sentences.

Practice: Speak for 30 seconds about yourself.
Family
Learn: Talk about family members and relationships.
Pattern: I have... / He is my... / She works...

Learn: Use English while buying things.

Pronunciation
